  • Like most Thrifty's it's very clean and well kept. Always feel like I can trust their food options and a decent selection of healthy meats and produce. An easy stop for a healthy bite just off the highway while heading up island

  • At the grocery checkout yesterday with a big bag of kitten chow, five blocks of lard, flea spray for cats, and a roll of paper towels. Our elderly, beloved and highly pampered cat prefers kitten chow, and I was planning to make French fries the old fashioned way, hence the lard and paper towel for removing the excess lard from the finished fries. Cashier gives me an odd look. Mentions the kitten chow and lard. I say "Yes well, we had to get a new one. It's not easy competing in the unlimited bulking division. The Russians use all sorts of drugs to get their weights, but its so hard on the animal and it all water weight gain anyway. We are going to do this honestly. When the title of Worlds heaviest domestic feline comes to Canada, we won't be accused of cheating. Cashier was a bit horrified by this. She asks, You had to get a new one? Yes well, we had Buster Maximilian up to 19 and 3/4 pounds and last week at 8 months of age, his little heart just blew out. A bit of a disappointment really. Then again, they aren't really supposed to be fed a pound of lard in two days but ramping gets the weight up faster. We got a new kitten from the pound this morning, and it's back to square one I guess. We mix the lard and chow at a ratio of 1 to 1 by weight, then use a sausage stuffer to push it all on down. They struggle a bit at first... An elderly lady next in line overheard all this and she finally had heard enough. "You foul man she said. How dare you do such things. You foul, foul man." I left without answering further.
